Taking better pictures: Meet the Experts Talk - Wednesday 6th October, 7pm, Snibston Discovery Centre
Coalville and District Photographic Society explain how to take the perfect shot. Learn the secrets behind impressive pictures and gain tips on improving your own photography.You are welcome to bring along your own camera (and instruction manual!) and ask questions on the night. £3.50 per person
Cemetery Junction showing at Century Theatre - Friday 15th October, 7:30pm, Snibston Discovery Centre
Written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, this 1970's set comedy drama centres on three upstart young men working for an insurance company.Stars Christian Cooke, Ralph Fiennes, Emily Watson, Matthew Bourne, Anne Reid and Ricky Gervais himself. Filming locations include Loughborough's Great Central Railway and Bell Foundry. Plus Elizabethan Express (1954), a British Transport Film shown by kind permission of the BFI. Toy Story 3 showing at Century Theatre - Saturday 16th October, 10:30am, Snibston Discovery Centre
A wonderful finale for the Toy Story saga. The toys are mistakenly delivered to a day care centre instead of the attic before Andy leaves for college. Woody has to convince the other toys that they were not abandoned and should return home. Featuring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. The hit film of the Summer. King Coal showing at Century Theatre - Saturday 16th October, 2pm, Snibston Discovery Centre
Programme includes over a dozen short films including A Day in the Life of a Coal Miner (1910), Coal Face (1935), Songs of the Coalfields (1964) and a look at miners' wives supporting their husbands during the 1984 strike. Doors open 30 minutes before the start of the show. Free event.
Went the Day Well? showing at Century Theatre - Sunday 17th October, 2pm, Snibston Discovery Centre
A quiet English village is unexpectedly visited by a platoon of Royal Engineers. When the soldiers are revealed as German troops, the villagers fight back. Conceived to highlight the danger of a Nazi invasion, Ealing Studios' Went the Day Well? is one of the most effective wartime films, although by the time of its 1942 release, the real threat of invasion had passed. Directed by Alberto Cavalcanti, and based on a story by Graham Greene, this classic film has now been restored by the BFI National Archive, who will be supplying our print. Stars Leslie Banks with Basil Sydney, Elizabeth Allan, Frank Lawton, Mervyn Johns, Megs Jenkins and a very young Thora Hird. Plus Holiday (1957), featuring Blackpool Illuminations. A British Transport Film shown by kind permision of the BFI. Doors open 30 minutes before the start of the show. Certificate PG. £3.50 per person, payable on the door.
Colliery Railway at Snibston running - Wednesday 20th October to Wednesday 27th October, Snibston Discovery Centre
Visitors can travel on a restored 1960s passenger coach on a short trip from the heart of the former mine eastwards into the centre of Coalville and westward to the old sidings complex. The coach is pulled by ‘Pitt’ - Snibston’s Hunslet diesel colliery shunting loco. Dates may alter at any time, so please Contact Us before coming to Snibston to ensure the train is running
There are extra charges for train rides.
Animals in Hands: Meet the Experts Talk - Thursday 21st and 28th October, 11:30am and 1:15pm, Snibston Discovery Centre
All children love animals and during half term Snibston is offering its younger visitors the chance to meet some rarer species of wildlife. So, come along and meet an Albino Burmese Python, a giant insect, a horned frog and lots lots more! Fun for the whole family! Museum entry not required. £2.50 per person
Miner's Mornings: Meet the Experts Talk - Thursday 21st October, 10:30am-12noon, Snibston Discovery Centre
A monthly mining themed talk and a chance to catch up and reminisce with old friends at Snibston. This month's talk is titled "Restructuring the Russian Coal Industry". Bill Pemberton talks about living and working as a consultant in the coal mining areas of Russia in the 1990's. Butterflies of Leicestershire: Meet the Experts Talk - Wednesday 27th October, 2pm, Snibston Discovery Centre
How to recognise the different species of butterflies that occur in our county and where to find them. Free event.
Mad Science: Spooky Science! - Saturday 30th October, 11am and 2pm, Snibston Discovery Centre
Bring science to ‘life’ with an unexpected twist in this ‘enlightening’ Halloween event. See a balloon version of Count Dracula fired out of a ‘hot water’ powered cannon, hear a block of ice - ‘scream’ and then watch in amazement as our special witches brew, not only changes colour, but also gives off a ghastly vapor. In addition, lightening, flashes, bangs and bubbles are all guaranteed to keep audiences’ on the edge of their seat. Halloween fun for all the family in Snibston’s Century Theatre. For children aged 5-10 years. Admission is £5 (Museum entry is not included).

Join us for the biggest event on the Snibston calendar! Come and experience a stunning, choreographed fireworks display, live music from tribute band Totally Take That, angle grinding displays, flame throwers and much more. Tickets can be purchased from Snibston front desk, Hermitage Leisure Centre, Co-op travel, Ashby TIC or from Go Leicestershire. Tickets £4 advance, £6 gate, under 5s go free.

Putting on the Style at Snibston's Century Theatre - Saturday 27th November, 7:30pm, Snibston Discovery Centre
Follow up your afternoon at the Christmas Lights event with an exciting and vibrant show celebrating the music of Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Joe Brown and Tommy Steele. This four piece band also performs a special tribute to British rock legend Lonnie Donegan. Skiffle grew out of a combination of American blues, folk and country and western and this band includes a bit of each. The night includes a bar with light refreshments, teas and coffees. Transport Festival – Friday 14th to Sunday 16th May 2010
Snibston Discovery Museum held its annual Transport Festival, starring a steam locomotive built in 1940 called Linda. The Festival included a flyover by a Battle of Britain Lancaster Bomber, vintage vehicles, trade stands, music from organ grinders, artists and, for kids, a Thomas the Tank Engine bouncy castle, horseshoe painting and pony rides.
Coalville Film Weekend - Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd May 2010
The first Coalville Film Weekend was hosted at the Century Theatre, Snibston Discovery Museum. It included blockbusting award winners, locally made shorts and animation workshops. Films featured included A Single Man starring Colin Firth, Fantastic Mr Fox, and the Ealing classic comedy The Titfield Thunderbolt.

St George re-enacted his infamous dragon slaying display in the Belvoir Centre, and Coalville was festooned with flags and banners to celebrate St George's Day.
